Which requirements do I need to use smart home in my house?

With the degree of automation you want, you determine which elements you will use. How does the smart home control work?

The smart home server (Radio Server and Smart Server) from myTEM is the heart of the smart home. It is the central intelligence of the smart home system. It connects and controls all other smart home devices and the myTEM SmartHome App. The smart home server is available in a version with radio communication (Radio Server) and for installation in the switch cabinet (Smart Server). With the various expansion modules and gateways, the myTEM SmartHome system can be adapted to any size and requirement of home automation.

Which app do I need to download to control the starter sets?

You can find the current myTEM SmartHome App in the Google Play Store or in the Apple App Store. It can be downloaded there free of charge.

Can the heating system also be integrated and intelligently controlled?

Special radio valves are available for this purpose, or an IO module that can be used for valve control of the underfloor heating system. This allows the room climate to be controlled throughout the house. Temperature profiles can be stored for each room and adapted to individual requirements. Window and door contacts detect, for example, if a window is open. The radio valve then regulates the radiator down. This also helps to save energy!

How do I know if my heating system is compatible?

In principle, every heating system is compatible. With the myTEM Radio Valve you can use the heating radiator and with the myTEM Radio IO Module you can easily integrate your underfloor heating into your smart home and save energy.

What does it cost to get started with the smart home?

The starter sets of myTEM cost between CHF 356.00/EUR 345.00 (starter set timer) and CHF 487.00/EUR 473.00 (starter set light). The prices of all myTEM SmartHome products can be found in our online shop.

What happens with my personal data at the smart home?

You decide whether your smartphone should have access to your smart home from outside. If not, your myTEM SmartHome will only work in the local network. It does not establish a connection to the outside world. Within your local network everything will still work, without restriction. Your privacy is protected in any case and at any time!

Personal data will only be used if you release it for a specific purpose and want to access your smart home via the myTEM SmartHome App. Only then will data be sent via the internet. Therefore, only the smart home server at your home serves as storage space for your private data.

What does smart home alarm system mean?

You can make your house safer with the help of various actuators (door/window contact, motion detector). The motion detector alerts you in case of movement. The window and door contact trigger an alarm when a window or door is opened. In case of smoke development the myTEM SmartHome App immediately reports and sounds the alarm. At the same time you receive a push message on your smartphone.

What is Z-Wave?

Z-Wave is an international standard for RF-communication between devices in the intelligent home. Z-Wave enables secure, stable communication in which every message is confirmed by the receiver (two-way communication). All powered devices forward messages if the direct RF link between transmitter and receiver is disturbed (routing). Thanks to Z-Wave, devices from different manufacturers can be used together in a radio network. This means that the device can be used with any Z-Wave devices from other manufacturers in a common Z-Wave wireless network.

The myTEM Radio Server is a Z-Wave device with secure communication (S2) and uses the radio frequency of 868.4 MHz. If other devices also have the special secure communication, the data exchange is carried out in this secure mode. If the other devices do not support this mode, the server switches to normal, unsecured communication for compatibility reasons.

Where do I ideally install the smoke detector?

A smoke detector should be installed in every bedroom, children’s room and in the corridors that serve as escape routes. Mount the smoke detector in the middle of the room, in a horizontal position, on the ceiling.

A smoke detector is only sufficient for a 60 square meter room and should always be installed in the middle of the ceiling. For larger rooms and special structural features, please note:

  • L-shaped rooms larger than 60 sqm require two smoke detectors, one on each side.
  • Large rooms that are interrupted by partition walls, partitions or large furniture require one smoke detector per section.
  • Open connections that extend over several floors require a smoke detector at least on the upper level.

How can I reset the password in the myTEM App?

If you press the pencil symbol in the myTEM SmartHome App under settings -> user, you can create a new password.

How can I change the password of the myTEM Server with the myTEM ProgTool?

The login to the myTEM App failed. What can I do?

Make sure that the LAN cable is connected to the server and that the LAN-LED of the myTEM Radio Server is switched on. Ensure that the WLAN is set on the smartphone and that it is the same network that is connected to the server.

I would like to receive notifications for myTEM SmartHome on my smartphone or tablet. Which settings do I have to make?

If you want to have a notification within your WLAN, this is already set up after you start using your smart home. If you want to receive the notifications remotely, you will need to use our free cloud service. All you need is an internet connection, as with all push messages.

Do the push notifications from the myTEM App cost me anything in an emergency or are they free of charge?

The push notifications are free of charge.

What happens to the push notifications in case of an alarm if the battery is empty or my mobile phone has no network?

The push notifications are saved and displayed as soon as you access your smart home.

I have an anti-virus program on my mobile phone, can this affect the push notifications?

Make sure that push notifications are allowed for the myTEM App. You can find this setting in your mobile phone under settings -> apps -> smart home.

Which smartphones can be used to operate the myTEM App?

The myTEM app works on smartphones with iPhone from 5s of 2013 and on Android devices from version Android 5.0.

With which operating systems myTEM ProgTool can be used?

The myTEM ProgTool can be used from Windows version 7 on.

What should be considered when commissioning a radio network?

Place the myTEM Server as centrally as possible in your house or apartment. First add all devices to the server (inclusion process). First place the devices that are closest to the server, then move them further and further away.

What is the range of the Z-Wave wireless network?

It is recommended to have a Z-Wave device approximately every 10 meters or closer for maximum efficiency. While Z-Wave has a range of 100 meters outdoors, walls reduce this range. The more line-fed devices in your Z-Wave network, the better, because they also act as repeaters for extending the Z-Wave signal. Through the Z-Wave network, a Z-Wave signal can “jump” through other Z-Wave products to reach the target device to be controlled. If this signal is disturbed by a wall, all you need is a simple Z-Wave repeater or other mains-powered device to bypass the wall and route the signal to its final destination. Z-Wave supports up to 4 hops, so the total home coverage will increase depending on the number of Z-Wave products on the network. The maximum range for 4 hops is approximately 200 meters.

Which Z-Wave devices from other manufacturers are compatible?

myTEM SmartHome is an open system that allows the integration of Z-Wave components from other manufacturers. The Z-Wave product variety is in the meantime so large that we can only test the devices of other manufacturers if necessary.
Usually it is possible to integrate Z-Wave certified components, but their function may be restricted in various ways. We can only help with the devices we have tested.

What should be taken into account when connecting and disconnecting?

Care should be taken with the radio devices to ensure that they are always connected or disconnected via the menu. A factory reset for the radio devices is not recommended.

How can I operate my Radio Valves without server?

The Radio Valves have a manual mode. Without a server it cannot be used.

What do I have to consider with the Dimmer Module if I want to dim LED lamps?

First of all, you have to make sure that the LED lamp can really be dimmed. This is usually stated on the packaging of the LED lamp. LED lamps from different manufacturers have different dimming behavior. The fine tuning can be done with the tool in the function block. The following settings are recommended: Trailing edge for LED lamps, leading edge for incandescent lamps.

Which mounting material is included with the Radio Valve?

The radiator thermostat Radio Valve is supplied with fittings for the most common valves (threaded connection M30x1.5mm, adapter for Danfoss RA/RAV/RAVL). If additional adapters are required, they can be obtained from Eurotronic at https://eurotronic.org/produkte/zubehoer/metalladapter.

What is DALI?

DALI – Digital Addressable Lighting Interface – is the new manufacturer-independent interface standard for dimmable electronic control gear. DALI is primarily designed for convenient control of light in self-contained rooms. The focus here is on uncomplicated operation of the light, with all the components involved, in the simplest possible way.

What is CAN?

The Controller Area Network (CAN) is the current wired standard among the connections between the respective myTEM modules. The messages are exchanged between the components via two twisted data lines. This technology is considered to be very robust and powerful.
